At checkout, the customer selects Wero as the payment method. The payment is then confirmed immediately via the customer's own banking app or the Wero app. Thanks to SEPA Instant Payments, the money is in the webshop's account within seconds. It works just as quickly and reliably as iDEAL, but on a pan-European scale. Customers do not need to enter their card details and can often pay using their phone number or email address.
The exact costs vary per Payment Service Provider, but Wero is designed to be an efficient, inexpensive payment method. Expect transaction fees similar to those charged by iDEAL or Bancontact. There are no fees for chargebacks or currency conversion, as Wero only works in euros. Use thefree provider selector to compare Payment Service Providers and Wero rates.
Wero can be integrated via payment service providers such as Mollie, Adyen, and Computop. Within WooCommerce and Shopify, you can activate Wero via a plugin from the PSP as soon as it becomes available. Do you need a customized checkout? Integration via API is also possible. For webshops with European customers, Wero will eventually become a must-have in the checkout process.

Not at the moment, but it's coming. Wero is under development and offering subscriptions is high on the agenda. We expect that you will be able to pay for subscriptions via Wero from 2025 (however, the rollout and support will vary per country and Payment Service Provider). Customers will give one-time permission and then it will run automatically. This is certainly interesting if you have a subscription model, for example.
Yes, at least through a Payment Service Provider. Shopify itself does not (yet) offer Wero, but do you work with Mollie, Adyen, or Stripe, for example? Then Wero will automatically become available as soon as the payment provider integrates it. Just perform an update and you can enable it in your Shopify payment settings. Nice and easy. Yes, just like with Shopify, this works via a Payment Service Provider plugin. For example, do you use the WooCommerce plugin from Mollie or Adyen? Yes, customers must have activated Wero. They can do this via their banking app (if their bank supports Wero) or by downloading the Wero Wallet app and linking it to their account. Don't worry: this is usually done in no time. As with iDEAL, it only works if the bank participates. It's best to combine Wero with other methods (including iDEAL, credit cards, PayPal, Klarna) so you don't miss out on anyone.
These will be replaced by Wero step by step. In the Netherlands, iDEAL will remain available for the time being. Bancontact and Payconiq are gradually being replaced by Wero in Belgium. Fortunately, you don't have to do much: the Payment Service Provider will ensure a smooth transition. Your customers will automatically be informed that Wero is 'the new iDEAL'.
Wero relies on bank security, so safety is guaranteed. Customers must always confirm their payment via their banking app or Wero wallet. This minimizes the risk of fraud. If something does go wrong, there is a new dispute process in place to ensure that both the customer and the business are treated fairly. Wero even goes a step further than iDEAL or credit cards, offering automatic refund options, for example.
